Jim Crawford is a seasoned professional in both photography and aviation, boasting an impressive 38 years of experience in aerial photography and 55 years of flying under his belt.
His journey into the skies began in 1969 when he embarked on helicopter flight training in the Army. It was in the turbulent skies of Vietnam where Jim honed his skills, piloting UH-1 helicopters, ultimately earning the prestigious Air Medal for his service. His Army training included courses in aerial photography in the Engineer Officer Candidate School (OCS) and the Engineer Officer Advanced Course.
The seeds of Jim’s passion for photography were sown early, spurred by the desire to immortalize moments of his growing family. Equipped with professional camera gear, he embarked on a journey to capture the essence of life through his lens, a pursuit that would later converge with his love for aviation.
In 1970, Jim augmented his aviation repertoire by obtaining commercial airplane single, multi-engine, and instrument ratings, augmenting his commercial helicopter license. This expansion further fortified his expertise in the realm of aviation, enabling him to navigate a broader spectrum of aerial endeavors. Not content with resting on his laurels, Jim also acquired an FAA Remote Pilot (Drone) license, embracing the latest technological advancements in aerial photography.
